Holocaust Memorial Day 2022
Today marks Holocaust Memorial Day around the world. I am, as ever, thinking of the incredible people who have shared their stories with me. Lale, Gita, Livia, Magda, Cibi and their families – your stories have changed my life and the world.
To mark this day with you, my wonderful readers, I am finally able to share with you a beautiful new short film I have been working on, The Story of Three Sisters. Last year, four generations gathered in Israel to take part in the wedding of one of Livia’s grandchildren. They also took time to mark the release of Livia, Magda and Cibi’s story, as reimagined in Three Sisters. Together, they celebrated once more the courage, resilience and love of these women, which is an inspiration to us all. Survival was their victory, and the large happy family gathered around them is their legacy.
I am struggling for word to express my love and gratitude to the families of the Meller sisters for allowing me to invade a family gathering and make this video. To each and every one of you, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. A very special thank you to Oded and Pam, who made this happen. Dorit, Chaya, Ditti, Kari, Yossi and Ronit, the video wouldn’t exist without your support. Livi, my darling Livi, our shining star, Dakujem. Unfortunately, Magda’s health prevented her from being present, but her presence, along with Cibi’s, is captured in every frame, in the eyes of everyone gathered.
Two wonderful people made the film happen. I am so, so grateful to Matt Ferro and Pnina Halfon Lang – your creative vision has given us a glimpse into the love and devotion that exists in this incredible family. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart.
To my readers, I hope this film brings you closer to the beautiful story and incredible family who inspired Three Sisters.
